Chloe Anthony Wofford Morrison, known as Toni Morrison, was an American novelist and editor. Her first novel, The Bluest Eye, was published in 1970. In 1988, Morrison won the Pulitzer Prize for her book Beloved. Morrison's works are praised for addressing the harsh consequences of racism in the United States and the Black American experience.

IMPORTANT: Due to inclement weather conditions, WCPS will hold a virtual learning day for students on Wednesday, February 12, 2025. Students should log-on to Schoology according to their regular schedule. All after school, evening and Adult Education classes are cancelled.
Shirley Anita Chisholm was an American politician. In 1968, she became the first black woman to be elected to the United States Congress. She was born on November 30, 1924 in Brooklyn, New York. She started as a nursery school teacher. She wrote a book about her life called Unbought and Unbossed. She won the Presidential Medal of Freedom in 2015 after her death.

Booker "T" (Taliaferro) Washington was an American educator, author, and orator (public speaker). Between 1890 and 1915, Washington was the primary leader in the African-American community and of the contemporary Black elite. In 1881, he founded a school in Tuskegee, Alabama, now called Tuskegee University.
