This summer in 5th grade ELA, students have been exploring the big question: What is the fuel of the future? Through informational texts, discussions, and opinion writing, we’ve been learning about fossil fuels, their impact on the environment, and the rise of clean, renewable energy sources like solar, wind, and hydropower. To make learning come alive, students participated in a Cookie Mining Simulation, where they "mined" chocolate chips from cookies to model the effects of fossil fuel extraction. This fun and hands-on activity helped students see how mining can damage ecosystems—and inspired thoughtful conversations about cleaner alternatives for our planet’s future. We’re combining reading, writing, critical thinking, and real-world issues to build powerful literacy skills that last far beyond the classroom!

🌟 Welcome to Pocomoke Middle, Mrs. Berry! 🌟 We’re thrilled to welcome Elizabeth Berry as our new Assistant Principal at Pocomoke Middle School! 🎉 Mrs. Berry brings a ton of experience and a heart for students to our Warrior family. A proud graduate of Salisbury University (go Gulls!), she earned her Bachelor’s in Elementary Education in 2001 and her Master’s in Educational Leadership in 2010. Her journey in education has deep local roots — she taught 2nd and 3rd grade right here at Pocomoke Elementary from 2005 to 2012. Since then, she’s worn many leadership hats in Somerset County, including AP and Principal roles at Princess Anne Elementary, Somerset Intermediate, and most recently, Carter G. Woodson. Mrs. Berry is all about supporting students, building strong relationships, and helping everyone grow — staff and students alike. We can’t wait to see the positive energy she brings to PMS! Drop a comment below to give her a warm Warrior welcome! 💙💛 #WarriorPride #PocomokeMiddle
